Jemal is currently working in Fire and Emergency New Zealand in Wanganui-Area 13 and is Acting Assistant Area Commander-Operations.
He began his career in 1991 in the New Zealand Fire Service, as it was previously known. Jemal worked his way through the operational ranks with time spent as a firefighter, trainer and in the operational officer ranks and was promoted to Senior Station Officer in 2011.
Jemal has been a member of ARRO since 2013. He is part of the Challenge Management Team and Technical Committee as Technical Specialist.
Jemal is deeply involved in motor vehicle accident extrication as an instructor and has a large experience base stemming from time on the tools as a firefighter through to leading extrications in an operational on road environment as an officer. He is also part of the New Zealand National Training and Advisory Group (TAG), and Subject Matter Expert Group (SME) for all things MVA.
Jemal also coordinate’s the New Zealand National MVA Instructor group for consistency and the introduction of new technique’s and equipment using the National Training Centre as a conduit. As a member of these groups he has influenced training material and practices to ensure Fire and Emergency NZ is continually evolving in the world of extrication.
Jemal also supports the New Zealand United Fire Brigades Association(UFBA) with his skill sets as an ARRO Assessor to further develop our Fire and Emergency Volunteers with his specialist knowledge.
