Michael Morgan - Chief Officer and Chief Executive Officer, South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS)
Michael joined the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) in February 1986 as a Firefighter and progressed through the ranks to Station Officer in operational shift positions from 1986 to 2005. During this time, Michael advanced into the rescue field as an operator and later as an officer, at that point the rescue requirements of the MFS were steadily advancing.
In February 2005, Michael was appointed to the position of Employee Support Coordinator for the MFS and was responsible for the exposure to trauma for all MFS staff.
In July 2006, Michael was appointed to the position of Commander Operations Human Resources (HR) and was responsible for the operational HR functions.
In December 2010, Michael was promoted to Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) and was responsible for the oversight of MFS Metropolitan Operations. As the ACFO for Metropolitan Operations Michael has been instrumental in the expansion of pump rescue appliances across the metropolitan and regional areas as the demand for additional response, equipment and training has evolved.
In September 2015, Michael was appointed to Deputy Chief Officer and continued his leadership of Operations including Metropolitan, Regional and Special Operations and continues to work on all aspects of rescue for the MFS and State.
In July 2018, Michael was appointed to the role of Chief Officer and Chief Executive Officer for a period of twelve months upon the retirement of the previous Chief Officer, Michael still maintains a passion for all aspects of operations and the need for continual learning and ongoing development in all areas of the MFS.
